The instructional content below is intended to help pesticide dealers with agricultural product identification in support of annual sales reporting requirements. Note, the Pesticide Dealer Registered Product Search is a secondary tool for product identification. Please see the “MDA Product Search Applications” section on the Agricultural Pesticides Sales Reporting page for full details on the MDA’s product search applications.
The Product Search Application described below identifies pesticide products by Company Name (Manufacturer), Product Name, EPA Number, and MDA Product Number. The search also identifies each product as an agricultural pesticide (licensed dealer reportable) or nonagricultural pesticide (non-reportable), a restricted use pesticide, and provides registration status as well as registration years. The product identifiers, attributes, and registration status listed above are all required to accurately report each agricultural pesticide sale. Note, while you may have an MDA Product Number from a previous sales year, we encourage checking the product’s current registration status as registrations change on a regular basis.
Access the Registered Product Search Application.
Search for the pesticide product you sold. You can search by “Company Name” (registration holder), “Product Name”, “MDA Product Number”, or “EPA Registration Number”.
Except for the MDA Product Number, each of the above search criteria can be found on page 1 of the pesticide product’s label.
The MDA highly recommends searching by MDA Product Number or EPA Registration Number when possible since these numbers are exact and will result in the most accurate search.
Searching by Product Name may not return the correct product of interest because the MDA uses the name exactly as it is on the label whereas the dealer’s name may differ in their inventory system (e.g. generic or common name).
The table below shows the product search screen with default criteria selected. You should not need to change any criteria before executing the search since the search defaults are “Pesticide Registration” and “All Products” which is a broad search of the pesticide.
Example search for product name “Atrazine 4L”.
The “Atrazine 4L” search returns 78 separate products registered by 29 different companies making the search cumbersome to find the correct product.
If you perform the search using the EPA Number, you know to be “100-497-37686” only one product is found making the search much more efficient.
Also of note, if you searched for “Atrazine 4L Herbicide” the search would not return products with a label name of “Atrazine 4L”. If you choose to search by Product Name, you need to be careful not to eliminate products of a similar name by making the search too specific.
Double check spelling if the correct product isn’t found in the search. Product names are often difficult to spell due to manufacturer naming conventions and without the correct spelling your search may fail.
The Atrazine 4L search also shows that this product name results in both agricultural and nonagricultural pesticides, so the search table is invaluable in identifying the agricultural products that require reporting and the nonagricultural products that don’t require reporting.

Example search for the EPA Reg Number “42750-61”.
As you can see in the search results below there are several products with the EPA number 42750-61. It is not unusual for multiple registered products to have the same EPA number and may even have the same EPA number and product name. To select the correct product for your report you will have to use secondary search criteria (Product Name and/or Company Name) to ensure you have selected the product you sold.

Once you have used the search criteria to find what you believe to be the correct product, confirm that the product is an Agricultural Pesticide which requires reporting.
Also check the Status Code to determine if the product has been cancelled (C). If the product you selected has been cancelled confirm the Last Year Registered. It is possible that the product is cancelled but was not yet cancelled for the sales year being reported.
If the product you believe was sold was cancelled for the sales year being reported, please confirm your selection. The MDA requires dealers to report the sale even if the product was cancelled. This way the correct fees that were collected on the product sale will be paid. Errors will be reviewed with dealers and corrected later when MDA conducts the sales data audit.
