Agriculture 2022: Deep Roots Strong Future

This training is for farmers who grow fresh fruits and vegetables, sell them at farmers' markets, and want to become an Authorized Vendor for the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) and Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) (together known as S/FMNP).

This session will be presented in English and will be the final training for the 2022 season.

The Governor's Food Safety and Defense Task Force has continuously met since 1990 to discuss issues affecting Minnesota's food system. The Task Force is composed of sixteen members, nine of whom are appointed by the Governor's office, representing food regulatory agencies, agricultural industries, food related non-profit associations, and the University of Minnesota. Meetings of the Task Force are held every other month and are open to anyone interested. 

Due to precautions against the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), and in conformance with Minnesota Statues Section 13D.021, upcoming meetings of the FSDTF have been scheduled and will be changed from in-person meetings to video-conference meetings with a phone-in option.

Are you a private well owner in the Lake City area? We Are Water MN and the MDA are hosting a free nitrate testing clinic. Drop by at a time that works for you. Samples are analyzed on the spot ‑ the process usually takes less than five minutes ‑ and results are given directly to you.

This nitrate testing clinic will be held at Lake Pepin Legacy Alliance's Kernza Fest in Ohuta Park in Lake City, Minnesota.

How to bring a water sample to this event: Run your water first for 5-10 minutes, then put at least one cup of water in a clean, sealed, hard-sided container and keep the sample cold until you bring it to the clinic. Samples should be taken less than 24 hours before the event.

The nitrate testing equipment is provided by the MDA using funding from the Clean Water Land and Legacy Amendment.
