The annual event includes business meetings, updates on current issues, a keynote address, informational sessions, a trade show, and recognition of outstanding soil and water conservation districts (SWCDs) and individuals. From grassroots initiatives to innovative conservation practices, the convention provided attendees with new ideas that can be implemented across the state.

The Northern Growers and Marketers Conference is hosted by the Minnesota Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association, the Minnesota Farmers Market Association, and the Minnesota Apple Growers Association. The conference brings together produce growers and farmers marketers  for sessions on fruit and vegetable production, marketing, and more. 

The annual Emerging Farmers Conference serves to advance the success and sustainability of farmers who traditionally face barriers to the education and resources necessary to build profitable agricultural businesses. This innovative conference focuses primarily on the needs and interests of farmers of color and immigrant farmers, and supports their contributions to local economic development and building healthy communities.

The Food Innovation Team (FIT) was created as a subcommittee of the Minnesota Food Safety and Defense Task Force to help answer questions and assist food business owners in navigating Minnesota’s food licensing and regulatory environment.  Most food business owners receive a license to do business from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA), the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), or their delegated agencies with relative ease. However, some food business owners may encounter challenges in licensing due to a number of factors that may not easily be resolved without assistance. When this happens food business owners are encouraged to work with the FIT to help answer their questions and create a path forward for their licensing needs. FIT meetings are held every other month and are open to anyone interested.

University of Minnesota Extension is presenting these workshops throughout the state this winter to provide farm families the tools and skills to move forward with developing their farm business transition and personal estate plans. Workshops are held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., include lunch, and are no cost to attendees. Pre-registration is requested.
