Attention Native growers, producers, food entrepreneurs and gatherers – this is a presentation you do not want to miss on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 10:00 am Central via Streamyard, YouTube, or FaceBook live. Did you know the U.S. Department of the Interior proposing new regulations to the Indian Arts and Crafts Act (IACA) that has the potential to impact YOU as a Native grower, producer, food entrepreneur and gatherer? Please join the Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative (IFAI), MN Department of Agriculture, and Minnesota Indigenous Business Alliance, as we host a conversation with Erin S. Parker, J.D., LL.M., and co-author of IFAI’s Policy Analysis: Potential Regulation of Native Produced Agricultural Products Under the Indian Arts and Crafts Act and Shannon Kesner, Fond du Lac citizen and Tribal Liaison with MN Department of Agriculture. This conversation will focus on Native growers/producers and the proposed regs, existing opportunities for trademark protection, the strength of Tribal Sovereignty and consultation, and a call to action. After an initial presentation about the revisions, we invite Native participants to ask questions and express any thoughts/concerns. Review the proposed changes to the act. Read the IFAI’s Policy Analysis: Potential Regulation of Native Produced Agricultural Products Under the Indian Arts and Crafts Act.
