The goal of this project is to collect one additional year of data to determine the water quality impacts of precision nitrogen management. The funding will extend the Clean Water Fund Research project that ended in 2018. The additional data will strengthen the conclusion on the water quality benefits of in-season variable rate nitrogen management. The specific objectives are:

  • Evaluate the ability to integrate remote sensing and crop modeling to better predict in-season nitrogen rate recommendations;
  • Evaluate the effect of variable rate N fertilizer management on corn yield;
  • Assess the benefits of variable rate N on water quality.
