The MDA certifies the collection of official ag lime samples to licensed producers on an annual basis (Minnesota Rules, part 1508.0035, subparts 1 and 2).  The analysis resulting from a sample collected in accordance to the MDA’s Official Sampling Procedure may be deemed official. The annual Minimum Pounds of ENP per Ton quality rating listed on an official analysis results must be listed on the label. This label must be furnished with each delivery of ag lime material.

See instructions for collecting an official sample under Forms + Resources. Collect at least ½ gallon volume or 5-10 pounds per sample. Place an identification label on each sample container. To ensure sample integrity, make sure that the sample container(s) is (are) air/water tight and sturdy enough for shipping through U.S. mail or other delivery service.

The MDA must be notified of any deviations from the Official Sampling Procedure at the time the sample(s) is (are) submitted to the University of Minnesota Soil Testing Laboratory. Submit an email to aglime.mda@state.mn.us at the time the sample(s) is (are) submitted. You must state the deviations from the official sampling procedure and demonstrate why such deviations were necessary. Only safety or other similarly related reasons will be considered as acceptable deviations from the official sampling procedure.

Access and complete the Lime Analysis Request sheet provided by the University of Minnesota Soil Testing Laboratory. The form is available in multiple formats on the Agricultural Liming Materials (University of Minnesota) webpage. Submit sample(s), completed Lime Analysis Request form(s), and payment (check only) to the address listed on the form. Retain a copy of the Lime Analysis Request form for your records.

The University of Minnesota Soil Testing Laboratory will not forward analysis results to the MDA. Therefore, it is each producer’s responsibility to submit official analysis results to the MDA. Analysis results are to be submitted electronically to the MDA via Submitting Ag Lime Analysis to the MDA (Ag Lime Analysis Submission Form) in the MDA ag lime web page.

An updated ag lime analysis must be performed, at a minimum, annually for each ag lime product/stockpile at each respective quarry, production, or storage site. The resulting annual/current Min. Lbs. ENP/Ton quality rating must be listed on the ag lime label for each delivery.
