Visit the Oak Savanna Learning Center to have your well water tested for free. Well water should be tested for nitrate every year (Minnesota Department of Health).

To participate in this screening, bring at least one cup of your well water in either a clean plastic or glass container, or a zipped plastic bag (i.e. Ziploc). To get a good sample, allow the water to run 5 minutes before filling the container. All samples should be kept cold. If you have a reverse osmosis water treatment system you may bring before and after treatment samples. If you have a different filter or a water softener, you need only bring one sample.

This testing is offered as a screening. If your screening results indicate nitrate levels above those naturally found in groundwater we recommend having a follow up test performed by a professional lab. If this is needed, additional resources will be shared.

The MDA is partnering with the Sherburne Soil and Water Conservation District to offer this testing. This program is supported by the Minnesota Clean Water Fund.
