Applicators must recertify to renew an applicator license by attending a Recertification Workshop. Attendance at a qualifying workshop allows applicators to renew their license without retesting.
Applicators must recertify in each use category in which they are licensed. Recertification periods vary by category. Applicators are responsible to obtain recertification credit as required by categories on the license.
“Recertify by” date
Printed on each license identification card is a “Categories/Recertify by” date. This is the latest date by which an applicator may recertify without having to retest.
To check the license status and “recertify by” date of an applicator, look on the license identification card or go to www.mda.state.mn.us click on License Lookup.
If an applicator does not meet the recertification requirement by the “Recertify by” date indicated on the license card and wants to renew the license the following year, he/she must retest and pass the closed-book certification exams and pay a retesting fee which is equivalent to a workshop fee.

1 | Recertification Workshops Recertification workshops are held through out the year. Persons renewing licenses with Categories C and H should note that attending a recertification workshop allows for license renewal for three years. Persons renewing their license with Categories E, F, G, I, J, K, L, M, N, P, Q and R should note that attending a recertification workshop allows for license renewal for two years. Persons renewing their license with Categories B, S, and Structural Pest Control should note that attending a recertification workshop allows for license renewal for one year. Persons attending a qualifying worship are also credited for category A. RETEST Failure to attend a recertification workshop means a person must retest for recertification in all held categories prior to license renewal. Retesting Credit and Fees Recertification credit for recertifying by retesting is equal to credit given for attending a recertification workshop. Retesting fees are set at a rate approximately equivalent to the fee for attendance at a recertification workshop.
