The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is the lead agency for response to, and cleanup of, agricultural chemical contamination (pesticides and fertilizers) in Minnesota.
This lead role was an outcome of the 1989 Minnesota Groundwater Protection Act which provided the MDA authority for agricultural chemical contamination under the Minnesota Environmental Response and Liability Act (MERLA - the Minnesota "Superfund") and created a reimbursement fund for the partial reimbursement of agricultural chemical cleanup costs (Agricultural Chemical Response and Reimbursement Account - ACRRA).
The Incident Response Unit operates under the primary authorities of Minnesota Chapters:
The MDA agricultural chemical Incident Response Unit has four major program areas: 24 hour Agricultural Chemical Emergency Response; Comprehensive Facility Investigations / MERLA; the Agricultural Voluntary Investigation and Cleanup (AgVIC) Program; and, the Agricultural Chemical Response and Reimbursement Account (ACRRA).
What's in My Neighborhood? – Agricultural Interactive Mapping
"What's in My Neighborhood? – Agricultural Interactive Mapping" is a searchable inventory of contaminated properties in Minnesota . The inventory includes properties that have already been investigated and cleaned up, as well as those currently enrolled in MDA cleanup programs.
