Minnesota Organic Conference returns in 2016
Perfect time for farmers to explore opportunities and hone skills
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Registration for the 2016 Minnesota Organic Conference (January 8-9) is now open. This annual, farmer-oriented, educational event offers sessions for producers of all types and experience levels. Look for registration materials in the mail or online at www.mda.state.mn.us/moc.
“Organic demand is outstripping supply in nearly every category, leaving a lot of opportunity for new producers,” said Minnesota Department of Agriculture Organic Specialist, Meg Moynihan. “This conference is a great way for more farmers to learn what organic requires, and for existing organic producers to get even better.”
Dozens of breakout sessions are scheduled. Explore organic crops, livestock and vegetable production strategies, organic certification requirements, markets and marketing, animal health, soil health, and more. Breakout sessions will be led by experienced organic farmers, researchers, agronomists, soil scientists, and organic industry insiders. Attendees can also tour a lively trade show with more than 80 vendors between learning sessions. Trade show exhibitors include organic buyers, brokers, certifiers, input suppliers, non-profits, public agencies, and private companies.
You don’t have to be an organic producer to attend. “In general, organic farmers love what they do and are generous about sharing information,” said Moynihan, who expects 600 attendees this year.
