Designed for 3rd grade students (but can be used in 4th too), these teaching kits contain a variety of colorful and curiosity-inspiring activities that help students understand the basics of Integrated Pest Management* (IPM) while having fun. This kit provides hands-on activities for simple inquiries and experiments for your classroom and schoolyard.  You’ll find tools for successful IPM learning adventures.

Welcome to a shared adventure in learning with the Pest Patrol Action Kit!  We’ve all been bugged at one time or another by pests. For many of us, the first reaction is to reach for the can of bug spray.  But there are other ways to get rid of those bothersome pests.  Integrated Pest Management or “IPM” offers a variety of pest management options to choose from.  That’s why we’ve expanded our popular “Join Our Pest Patrol – A Backyard Activity Book for Kids” with this inquiry based Pest Patrol Action Kit.

The Kit’s six activities:

  • support Minnesota Science Education Standards;
  • extend Pest Patrol booklet IPM concepts;
  • can be used in any order; and
  • are designed for use multiple times.

By sharing these activities with your students, you are building awareness and habits that help kids learn about IPM and its benefits.  You’ll foster better pest management practices by providing students with activities to develop life-long environmentally-friendly skills and you’ll have fun along the way!

Produced September, 2005. This project was funded by the US Environmental Protection Agency, Region 5, Chicago, Illinois. (Written by Jane Duden; Video by Neil Cunningham (MDA); Design and Production by Northern Design Group)
