Field day features research in hops production in Minnesota

Free, on-farm field day featuring research in small farm commercial hops production

7579 St. Mathias Road, Brainerd, MN

Background:
The Joneses, participants in the Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s (MDA) Sustainable Ag Grant Program, are studying the feasibility of small scale hops production on their Central Minnesota farm. The Blue Ox Brewer’s Society, a home beer brewer’s club, are cooperators in the project. The club members, along with the Joneses, will be available to answer questions regarding growing, cultivating, fertilizing, harvesting and brewing. Field day attendees can expect to see the hops fields in full bloom, possibly ready for harvest. Lunch will be available to purchase from a local caterer.

Directions from Brainerd:
Go south on South 6th Street/Business Hwy 371 for two miles to County Road 21 (St. Mathias Road). Turn left and follow the road for three miles.
