This field day is the culmination of a three year research project by strawberry grower Sam Kedem. Kedem received a MDA Sustainable Agriculture Demonstration grant to study the feasibility of growing day-neutral strawberries organically. He is comparing strawberries grown in plastic with those grown in straw mulch. He is also comparing ribbon rows with single rows. In addition he is comparing four different varieties, including Seascape, Tribute, Albion and Evie-2. This year, he has also been growing some of his strawberries in high tunnels with excellent results.
Directions: Travel three miles south of Hastings via Hwy. 61. Turn west on 190th St. Go about 1/6 mile and the nursery is on the south side of the road.
A five dollar donation toward lunch would be appreciated. For more information contact Sam Kedem at 651-437-7516 or info@kedemroses.com.
