MDA to host on-farm event to recognize 10,000th AgBMP loan
What:
On-farm event to recognize MDA’s Agricultural Best Management Practices (AgBMP) loan program which has reached a new milestone. The AgBMP program has completed its 10,000th loan to help Minnesota farmers and landowners finance projects to prevent pollution. About $150 million dollars in loans have been issued since the program began in 1995.

Carlson Brothers Dairy farm, 28083 160th Avenue Way, Welch, MN
The Carlson brothers operate a 140 cow dairy farm in Goodhue County. In 2009, they implemented an agricultural best management practice by constructing a manure storage basin to eliminate the daily need to haul manure. The project allows for manure storage for up to one year and allows the Carlsons to utilize the nutrients more effectively. They worked with the Goodhue County Soil and Water Conservation District and Associated Bank in Red Wing.
Directions:
The Carlson Farm is located 5.7 miles southeast of Welch, MN. From Welch, go south on County 7 Blvd 4 miles to County 41 Blvd (first gravel road to left after ski village). Turn left (East) on 41 and go .8 miles. Turn left on 160th Avenue Way and go 1 mile. The farm is on your left. Watch for signs along the route.
