AGRI Food Hub Grant Program


Purpose

Increase sales of Minnesota agricultural products by developing or expanding food hubs and other alternative community-based food distribution systems. Grants are intended to stimulate purchases of locally grown and raised food products by:

  • assisting food hubs and other alternative community-based food distribution systems with development or updating of business plans, feasibility studies, and/or marketing plans
  • assisting food hubs and other alternative community-based food distribution systems with the purchase of equipment or physical improvements to allow them to purchase, process and distribute more Minnesota grown and raised food

Who’s Eligible

For-profit and not-for-profit food hubs and other alternative community-based food distribution businesses. See the Request for Proposal (RFP) for more detail.

What’s Eligible and Amount Available

Two categories of grants will be considered:

  1. Business Planning, Feasibility Study and Marketing Plan Grants

    Eligible grant projects include creating or modifying business plans, marketing plans, and feasibility studies for food hubs and other alternative community-based food distribution systems. Other ideas may be proposed. Up to 75% of the total project cost may be covered by the grant, with a maximum grant award of $50,000 and a minimum grant award of $2,500.

  2. Equipment Purchases and Physical Improvement Grants

    Eligible grant projects include the purchase and installation of food processing equipment, coolers/refrigeration units, freezers, shelving, delivery vehicles, grading, packing and sorting equipment, and architectural work. Other ideas may be proposed. Up to 25% of the total project cost may be reimbursed with grant funds, with a maximum grant award of $50,000 and a minimum grant award of $1,000.

Application Period

Proposals may be submitted between March 1, 2017 and April 19, 2017.
