The first way to protect our state from invasive pests is to prevent their arrival. This is done through use of Pest Risk Assessment, Education, and Regulation. - Pest risk assessment is a way to evaluate the chances of a pest causing problems for our state.
- Education about invasive pests is necessary for a successful program. The public is taught about the dangers of transporting items that could carry pests to new areas.
- Regulation is the use of legal authority to prevent invasions by new pests. This can often take the form of quarantines.
