Local Land Use & Livestock Siting ProgramThe Minnesota Legislature allocated funds to the Minnesota Department of Agriculture to develop a program to assist local units of government with agricultural planning and zoning issues and livestock siting issues. As a result of this legislative action, the Local Land Use and Livestock Siting Program was formed to partner with townships, counties, livestock producers and commodity organizations and to bring information, research and technical expertise to the livestock siting process. Services provided to local governments:- Local governmental training for counties and townships on agricultural planning and zoning issues and technical feedlot siting issues.
- Guide local governmental units to technical and scientific planning and zoning and feedlot siting resources.
- Assistance in reviewing and commenting on local zoning ordinances and comprehensive land use plans.
- Assistance to local chambers of commerce, municipalities and related organizations on agricultural issues.
Services provided to livestock producers: - Technical assistance to livestock producers in regards to the feedlot permitting process.
- Encourage partnerships with commodity organizations on various initiatives in support of animal agriculture.
Other services:- Development, distribution and dissemination of technical, informational and educational planning and zoning and feedlot siting resources.
- Act as a technical liaison between local units of government, livestock producers and state agencies on feedlot siting issues.
