This division supports the regulatory divisions within the Department of Agriculture and several divisions with in the Department of Natural Resources.  The lab examines samples of food, feed, dairy, fertilizer, pesticides, and water for a wide variety of tests. [Learn more about the Lab]

Services

  • MDA Laboratory Seed Testing Services
    The Seed and Plant Pathology Section provides various types of tests to determine seed quality (purity, noxious, germination, tetrazolium, etc.). The fee will vary according to the kind of seed, whether it is a mixture and the kinds of tests requested. Fee Schedule and Login Sheet (PDF: 21 KB / 2 pages)

  • MDA Laboratory Shade Tree Testing Services
    As of December 31, 2007, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture is no longer sponsoring the Shade Tree program. Testing for Dutch elm and oak wilt can be done by the Plant Disease Clinic at the University of Minnesota.

  • MDA Laboratory Plant Disease Testing Services
    The Seed and Plant Pathology Section offers other plant disease diagnostic testing such as Bacterial Blight / Diaporthe screening for soybeans, Barley Smut and Stewarts Wilt.  Contact the laboratory for information about the availability of additional disease testing services at 651-201-6649.

  • State Milk Laboratory Evaluation Program
    The Laboratory Evaluation Officers evaluate and accredit milk laboratories and antibiotic screening sites throughout the state, and they certify analysts who examine milk supplies for interstate shipment and participation in the National Conference of Interstate Milk Shippers.  This program promotes good laboratory practices in private milk laboratories and provides officially designated laboratories and analysts required to analyze milk samples under the Grade A Pasteurized Milk Ordinance. [Learn more about the Milk Laboratory Evaluation Program]
