Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Dave Frederickson appointed Matthew Wohlman to the position of Deputy Commissioner at the Minnesota Department of Agriculture in October 2016. Previously, Wohlman served as Assistant Commissioner for nearly six years.
Wohlman’s responsibilities at the MDA include oversight of the Finance and Budget Division, Human Resources and Information Technology at MDA.
Wohlman is an original architect of the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program that today is supported by federal, state, and local government partners.
Wohlman owns and operates a fifth-generation family farming operation based in Renville County. He earned an undergraduate degree in animal science from the University of Minnesota, and a master’s degree in advocacy and political leadership from the University of Minnesota Duluth. Prior to his appointment at the department, Wohlman worked as the outreach director for Minnesota Congressman Tim Walz.
